WorkSafe Victoria 2004 Workplace Health and Safety Committee of the Year.
In 2002, TNT Express set an objective to be a 5 Star OH&S Company.
This required all depots to significantly step up their commitment to OH&S and ensure TNT?s OH&S Management System was fully developed and maintained at a local level.
This new environment has come about through a strong OHS training focus, the changing of mindsets of our people, and a clear commitment from leaders within the business that safety is our number one priority.
A key focus of risk for TNT Express in Laverton has been a major review of depot forklift operations and traffic management hazards in the depot.
In line with the size and population of the depot a project team was established to look at the site as a whole, and break it down in the context of the key activity areas in order to identify how such operational activities were exposed to traffic management hazards to ensure workers are kept at a safe distance from working forklifts – one of the most dangerous pieces of equipment in the workplace.
Significant progress has been made; however there is still ongoing implementation and review as further creative solutions present themselves.
A continuous improvement approach has been the result of strong ongoing support and guidance from the Laverton senior management team.
